The Beaver Scout Challenge

This is an exciting time for you in scouting. It is a time when you will be moving from one section to another. In a few months time you will be invested as a Cub Scout. The Cub Scout Section encourages the individual to make more choices and be more responsible for them. In order to prepare them for this, the Beaver Scout Section has a Challenge Badge for the older Beaver Scouts to achieve a few months before moving to the Cub Scout Section.

The Beaver Scout Challenge is an optional award and is only taken up by Beaver Scouts who want to do it. It is divided into the four areas of the Beaver Scout Programme:

  1. Learning about themselves

  2. Getting to know people

  3. Exploring

  4. Caring

All the four challenges must be completed. The activities chosen should be challenging to the INDIVIDUAL Beaver Scout. What may be challenging to one child may be an easy option to another. Therefore, there are no set standards for this award.

The challenges have to be chosen by you and the Beaver Scout Leader. You parents could help you with this by talking through the challenges with you and help you to start thinking about what to do, ready to share with the Leader. All the challenges can be done as part of a group or individually. These are the four challenges in the Beaver Scout Challenge:

It could involve a particular visit or event set up by the parents or the colony Leaders. The challenge can either be done in the Colony meetings, at home or in School. It depends on the individual and what their needs are. Remember, it must be a joint arrangement between yourself and the Beaver Scout.
