Beaver Badges

Beaver Uniform Beaver Badges Cub Uniform Scout Uniform Explorer Uniform

This page will tell you about the system that we use for badges at 1st Hartford because it is a little different to the system that other groups around the country use. We will also show you where to put the badges so you don't end up having to sew the same badge onto the Beaver Uniform twice. As the Scout Uniform is changing we are going to assume that the badges will remain in the same position as before and we will notify of any changes in this arrangement in due course.

Membership badges and County and District badge are awarded on investiture - exactly as in any other Scout Group. This usually takes place when a Beaver has been attending the colony for about six weeks.

The first Beaver Badge awarded by the Scout movement is called a 'Beaver One'- it has one beaver on it. It is supposed to be awarded when a Beaver has been a member for 6 to 8 months. We find that the fairest way to do this is to award a point for each meeting that the Beaver attends and a bonus point for special events. The Beaver One badge is then awarded when a Beaver has 20 points.

The second Beaver Badge is a Beaver Two (it has 2 Beavers on it!) and should be awarded for a further 6 – 8 months. In our colony it is awarded for 40 points.

When a Beaver attains 60 points there are no more official badges to present so a Scout Movement shield is awarded instead.

Some Beavers who attend everything get as many as 80 points and there are now available some Scout Cups which will be awarded for this

The final badge which can be awarded for Beavers is the Beaver Scout Challenge. This is an optional badge and is given for undertaking four separate challenges. A personal challenge, a caring challenge, a scouting challenge and an exploring challenge. This is usually done in a Beavers last term before going to Cubs.
